Prospect reviews
A prospect review is a second opinion on a portfolio your firm does not manage yet. The person is set up as a prospect, sends their statements through a link you give them, and receives a report that leads with the findings you chose. If they sign, the same record becomes a client.
Prospects
Start with New review on the Overview or the Clients screen. It asks for a name, the tax residence and the base currency (suggested from the residence); an e-mail is optional and is for your records only. The prospect opens on its own client page, with a Prospect review panel at the top.
A prospect is a client with the status Prospect. Every screen works on it as on any client: imports, consolidation, cross-border findings, costs, scenarios and reports. What differs:
- A prospect does not use an active-client place on your plan. A firm can hold up to ten open prospects at a time; archiving one frees its place.
- Prospects are left out of the firm's figures: the Overview, the firm-wide cross-border desk, reviews and consents due, and tag counts cover active clients only.
- The Clients screen lists them under Prospects, next to Active and Archived.
The review panel
The panel on a prospect's page follows the review in four steps, each read from the record itself: collect statements, confirm imports, read the findings, generate the review. A step is marked done when its data exists, for example once every account with an import has been confirmed.
Statement upload link
Instead of collecting statements by e-mail, create an upload link from the panel and send it yourself, by your usual channel. Borderfolio does not write to the prospect. A link can also be created for an active client.
- Choose how long it works: 3, 7 or 14 days. A client can have at most three live links; you can revoke one at any time.
- The address is shown once, when the link is created. Borderfolio stores only a fingerprint of it (SHA-256), so a lost link cannot be shown again: create a new one.
- The page the prospect opens needs no account. It shows your firm's name, and logo if you set one, never the prospect's name.
- It accepts PDF, CSV, XLSX and XLS files and photos of statements (PNG, JPEG, WebP): up to 10 files at a time and 20 per link, 5 MB each. Every file's contents are checked against its type before it is stored.
- Sending is protected by a bot check and a limit on requests per address. An unknown, expired or revoked link, or one for an archived client, gives the same answer: the link is not valid.
Received statements
Files sent through a link wait under Received statements. Nothing is read automatically. Download a file to look at it, delete it, or select the files of one brokerage account and import them into an existing or new account: up to five files go into one import, which uses one statement import from your plan. From there the usual review and confirmation applies, and imported files leave the list.
Files that are not imported are deleted after 30 days. Like every statement, an imported file then follows the retention of source files.
The second-opinion report
Generate the review from the prospect's page. For a prospect the default title is Portfolio second opinion followed by the month. In the generate dialog, choose up to five key findings from the client's cross-border findings, in the order you want them; those marked risk, then attention, are preselected. They print first, under Key findings, and each stays in full in the cross-border section with its assumptions and sources.
Everything else about the document is as described in Reports: your notes are printed as your own, the firm's template and branding apply, and the report is stored as a snapshot that never changes.
Convert to client
Convert to client makes the prospect an active client. It needs a free active-client place on your plan; the accounts, imports, findings and reports stay where they are. An archived prospect that never became a client is restored as a prospect.
What is recorded
Creating and converting a prospect, creating and revoking a link, files received through a link, and files imported, downloaded or deleted from the list are written to the firm's audit trail. Links and file contents are never recorded.
