Borderfolio for Advisors / Solutions
Interactive Brokers portfolio reporting for advisers
Clients who invest internationally often hold at least one account at Interactive Brokers, usually beside a pension or a local platform. Borderfolio reads IBKR accounts from Flex statements or a read-only Flex Web Service connection, consolidates them with the client’s other providers, screens them for cross-border issues and puts them in a report under your name.
The trial is on the Founding Adviser plan, with no card to start. Prefer to look first? Open a sample firm, read-only, with fictional clients and real prices.
Two ways in
| Flex statement import | Read-only connection | |
|---|---|---|
| What you provide | Flex Query CSV exports of trades and cash transactions | A Flex Query ID and a Flex Web Service token |
| How it is read | A format-specific parser, without a model | The broker’s read-only Flex Web Service |
| What arrives | Trades, dividends, fees and cash movements in the export | Current holdings, cash per currency and recent executed trades |
| When | Whenever you upload | On connecting, then once a day; Sync now on demand |
| Before it counts | Reviewed and confirmed by you | Lands unconfirmed and goes through the same review |
An Activity Statement in PDF is read by the extraction model instead, and reviewed the same way. With the connection, only stocks, ETFs and funds are imported, and each sync reads recent trades, so older history still comes from Flex statements. Credentials are checked with one read-only call before they are saved; the token is stored encrypted and never shown again. If IBKR rejects it, for example when it expires, daily syncing stops and the account asks you to reconnect. Borderfolio never places, changes or cancels orders. See connect a broker.
What you can report on
- Holdings and cash valued in the client’s base currency, whatever currencies the IBKR account holds.
- Income expected from trailing distributions, with withholding at the client’s treaty rate. A missing W-8BEN is named, since IBKR then withholds the statutory 30%.
- Performance from the confirmed trades and cash flows, combined with the client’s other accounts.
- Fund domicile. IBKR accounts often hold US-listed ETFs; the cross-border findings show the US-situs estate exposure and, where a counterpart is catalogued, the Irish UCITS alternative with its effect after home tax. See cross-border portfolio analysis.
- Costs including commissions paid in the last twelve months, from the confirmed transactions.
Alongside the client’s other accounts
The IBKR account is one account of the client, consolidated with statements from their other providers: a UK platform, a pension, a Canadian or Australian broker. The same instrument held in two places is one exposure line. See multi-broker consolidation.
In the report
Holdings, allocation, performance, dividends and fees, and the cross-border considerations, with your commentary under your name and the data sources listed at the end. The report is rendered from a stored snapshot, so the next sync does not change a report already issued. See reports.
Other brokers
Freedom24 is the only other broker with a read-only connection. Exports from 14 more brokers are read by parsers, and other statements go through an extraction model with your review; see importing statements. Borderfolio has no partnership with Interactive Brokers; the connection uses the Flex Web Service available to account holders.
